Dr. Alberto Ferreira De Souza is Emeritus Professor of Computer Science at the Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (UFES), Brazil. He is currently Director of the I2CA – Institute of Applied Computational Intelligence – and also serves as CTO and Co-founder of Lume Robotics S.A., CSO and Co-founder of AUMO S.A., and Advisor to Motora Technologies S.A. He received a B.Eng. (Cum Laude) in Electronic Engineering and an M.Sc. in Systems Engineering and Computer Science from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ), Brazil, in 1988 and 1993, respectively, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from University College London, United Kingdom, in 1999. He has authored or co-authored one U.S. patent and more than 150 scientific publications. He has edited the proceedings of four conferences, including two IEEE-sponsored events, and is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Dr. De Souza has held several leadership positions at UFES and in the broader scientific and engineering community, including Director of Research at UFES (2012–2013); Member of the Administrative Council of the Espírito Santo Science and Technology Foundation (FEST, 2004–2014); Pro-Provost of Planning and Development at UFES (2004–2008); President of the Steering Committee of the Vitória High-Speed Metropolitan Area Network (METROVIX, 2005–2008); Director Superintendent of the UFES Institute of Technology (2003–2004); Vice-Dean of the School of Engineering (2001–2004); Head of the Computer Science Department (2000); Member of the Board of Directors of CREA-ES (1995–1996); and Coordinator of the Computer Engineering Program at UFES (1994–1996). Alberto Ferreira De Souza is a Comendador of the Rubem Braga Order.
